BRANDED Ideas is proud to be the operator of the official Floriade Shop. One of the main reasons we're involved is it allows us a 30 day, real world 'test window'. Refining our product offering in the exacting crucible of event retail quickly shows which products are stars, and which are not!
Here's what worked
Deals - carefully targeted deals to encourage multi buys
- Postcards - $1 each or 6 for $5
- Magnets - $5 each or 5 for $20
- Calendars - $9.99 each or 3 for $25
Our product range is 'magnet heavy' and sometimes it seems too much, but we saw their worth time and time again. "Just let me stop in here and get a magnet", we'd hear as visitors were passing the shop - and many of them left with a magnet and a bag full of memories! For others, the magnet was the last item, the impulse buy from the counter display - but whether a magnet was the primary motivator, or an afterthought, we sold thousands.
'For the moment' display
- Caps at the front of the store in the morning for visitors that had forgotten a sun hat
- Beanies at the front during the Nightfest evenings
- Poncho's on the counter when showers threatened

This was our garment star - white ladies t-shirts and singlets with a striking 'retro' looking photo image. Don't forget to include a wide range of sizes in your garment offering. Whilst the bulk of sales may be in the medium size range there are still significant sales to be had in smaller and larger sizes - and it makes your customers happy.
We worked with another on site retailer, giving their product space in our store. The result for both parties was additional sales. Without sacrificing any of our 'regular' lines, we were able to attract and satisfy a different demographic. We also added a charity range, a local content range and additional gift lines to complement the souvenir merchandise. Spend per head increased and fewer people left the shop without purchasing.
